Margaret R. "Meg" Derby

Margaret R. "Meg" Derby, 51, of Williamstown died yesterday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital.
She had resided at Williamstown Commons for six years.
Born in Adams on Aug. 10, 1953, daughter of Robert and Barbara Pierce White of Williamstown, she attended school in New Ashford, and the former Southworth School.
She was a graduate of McCann Technical School in North Adams. She also had lived in Hancock, North Adams and Pittsfield.
A longtime health-care worker, Mrs. Derby had been employed by Sweet Brook, Williamstown Commons, NARH and, most recently, by Northern Berkshire Mental Health in North Adams. She began her career at age 14 as a candy striper at Sweet Brook, volunteering for two years. During the early 1980s, she saved two lives in the same night in separate incidents by performing the Heimlich maneuver.
She was a member of White Oaks Congregational Church and a former member of Williamstown Methodist Church.
She enjoyed doing crafts, animals and bingo.
Besides her parents, she leaves two daughters Bobbyjo Bologna of Pittsfield, and Sarah Bearden of Starr, S.C.; a son, Darren Derby of Pittsfield; two sisters, TerrieM. Moniz of Clinton and Paula Gamache of Adams; six grandchildren, and her husband, Paul Derby of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Margaret R. Derby, who died Feb. 15, 2005, will be conducted Friday, Feb. 18, at 2 at White Oaks Congregational Church, Williamstown, with the Rev. Connie Ecback, pastor. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown.
Friends may call at GEORGE M. HOPKINS FUNERAL HOME on Thursday from 5 to 8. Memorials in her honor may be made to White Oaks Congregational Church or Village Ambulance Service through the funeral home 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown, MA 01267.
She leaves two sons-in-law, Louis Bologna and Christopher Bearden; a daughter-in-law, Heather Derby; six grandchildren, Courtney and Kylie Bologna and Alex Derby, all of Pittsfield, and Austin, Zachery and Kaytlyn Bearden, all of South Carolina; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and her companion, Giles Shaw of Pittsfield. She loved her pet pig, Arnold.
