Cynthia Mulder

Cynthia Mulder, 65, of 86 Buxton Hill Road died Tuesday after a battle with cancer.

Born in Canandaigua, N.Y, on Nov. 1, 1939, daughter of Dr. Carl Benton Smith and Helen Laidlaw Smith, she was a graduate of Wittenberg University in Ohio and received a nursing degree from the University of Rochester (N.Y.) School of Nursing.

Mrs. Mulder was employed by the Visiting Nurse Association of Northern Berkshire for more than 20 years, retiring seven years ago. While living in Cooperstown, N.Y., she worked as a surgical floor nurse at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital for many years.

She moved to Williamstown in 1973.

She was a member of First Congregational Church and a longtime choir member. A quilter, she was a member of the Friendship Knot and the Tuesday Night quilters groups.

She was a volunteer for Hospice of Northern Berkshire, the Children's Fair at First Congregational Church and the annual wreath-making group for North Adams Regional Hospital.

She enjoyed spending summers on the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands areas.

She and her husband, Dr. Martien Adriaan Mulder, were married June 16, 1962, in Canandaigua, N.Y.

Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Pieter Martien Mulder of Providence, R.I., and Brian Carl Mulder of San Francisco; a daughter, Cynthia Irene Mulder of Providence; a brother, Carl T. Smith of Canandaigua, and a granddaughter.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Memorial Service for Cynthia Mulder will be held Sunday, March 6, at 2 at First Congregational Church of Williamstown. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the music and piano fund at First Congregational Church, Williamstown, MA 01267.

Arrangements are under the direction of GEORGE M. HOPKINS FUNERAL HOME, 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown. She also leaves her daughter-in-law, Lucia Quartararo Mulder, and her granddaughter, Phoebe Simmons Mulder, both of Providence.
