Frederick C. Lindley

Frederick C. Lindley, 69, died yesterday, at his residence on Henderson Road following a long illness.

Born Sept. 7, 1935, son of Frederick C. and Helen Decker Lindley, he was a 1953 graduate of Williamstown High School and of the Williams College School of Banking in 1970.

He lived his entire life in Williamstown.

As a youth, he worked at the family business, The Chickadee Diner on Cold Spring Road, and also at Galusha's Farm.

Mr. Lindley served in the Navy as an airplane mechanic from 1954 until 1958 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge.

He was also stationed at naval bases in Norfolk, Va., and Quonset Point, R.I.

Following discharge from the Navy, he worked for Earl Coones Construction and Connors Brothers Movers. In 1969, he became employed as a customer service officer at the former Williamstown National Bank and with its mergers, Bank of Boston, First Service Bank, Peoples Bank and Bank of New England.

He was member of the First Baptist Church of Williamstown and Williams Lodge of Masons. Prior to his illness he enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, snowmobiling and wood cutting.

He married his wife, the former Carol Lee Myers, on Sept. 24, 1960, at the First Baptist Church of North Adams.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Peter Lindley of Pownal, Vt.; two daughters, Dara Lindley, also of Pownal, and Rebecca Williams of New Fairfield, Conn.; a sister, Barbara Rennell of North Adams, and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services will be held on Monday morning, April 4, at 11 at the First Baptist Church of Williamstown. Interment will follow in the family lot in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. There will be no calling hours.

Memorials in Mr. Lindley's honor may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Shaftsbury, Vt., through the George M. Hopkins Funeral Home, 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown, MA 02167.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Justin and Amanda Williams and Jennifer Lindley, and several nieces and nephews.
