Norma Harris Solomon

Norma Harris Solomon, 78, of the Village at Fillmore Pond in Bennington, Vt., formerly of 189 Stratton Road, died Monday evening at Sweet Book Care Centers.
Born in Chicago on Aug. 11, 1926, daughter of Joseph and Zelda Brooks Rubin, she attended schools there and in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she graduated from high school and attended Brooklyn College.
She moved to Williamstown in 1987, after retiring.
Mrs. Solomon was a founder of the Suffolk Center for Emotionally Disturbed Children in Bayshore, N.Y. She worked there as a teacher and was the associate director for 10 years. She also taught privately for learning-disabled children.
She also had worked at Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue in North Adams.
She was a coordinator with the American Cancer Society and an instructor with the AARP 55-Alive Program.
Her husband, Maynard Solomon, whom she married April 27, 1946, died in September 1979.
She leaves two sons, Paul Solomon of Williamstown and Peter Solomon of Wheatley Heights, N.Y., and three grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Private graveside services for Norma Solomon will take place at the family lot in Mount Ararat Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y. Friends are welcome at the home of Paul and Suellen Solomon, 130 Forest Road, Williamstown (458-8604) on Sunday, April 17, from 4 to 7.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, which is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Suellen Solomon of Williamstown, Peter and Julianna Solomon of Wheatley Heights, and three grandchildren, Todd Solomon, Jessica Solomon and Matthew Solomon. Two brothers, Lawrence Rubin and Lester Rubin, are deceased.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
