June M. Carmichael, 74, of 63 Wilshire Drive died Sunday at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in Putnam, Conn., on June 1, 1930, daughter of Joseph and Lena Hendrickson Miller, she graduated from Putnam High School.
She studied nursing in Columbus, Ga., and earned a certificate as a licensed practical nurse.
Mrs. Carmichael was employed as a nurse by the Northern Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association, retiring in the 1990s. Earlier, she was employed by the former Adams Nursing Home in Williamstown and by the North Adams School System, to which she returned as a substitute school nurse after retiring. In the 1970s, she owned and operated the former Shoe Barn on Main Street in North Adams.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams and enjoyed gardening and flowers.
Her husband, Robert Carmichael, whom she married June 27, 1987, in St. John's, died June 10, 2003.
She leaves two sons, Frank Rowan of Oakwood, Ga., and Zachary Rowan of Redfield, Ark.; two sisters, Marion Chambers of Putnam and Flossie Sponcey of Canton, Conn.; four grandchildren, and a stepgranddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of June M. Carmichael, who died May 15, 2005, will be conducted Thursday at 1:30 at St. John's Episcopal Church, North Adams, by the Rev. Edward King, rector.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for St. John's Episcopal Church. Survivors also include two daughters-in-law, Cathy Rowan and Elizabeth Rowan; four grandsons, Jason, Joshua, Travis and Lucas Rowan, and a stepgranddaughter, Tiffany Amanda Tuck.
