Theodore Miller Douglas , 82, of 35 Adams Road died Saturday at home.
Born in East Orange, N.J., on Nov. 3, 1922, son of Theodore M. and Katherine Dunlap Douglas, he attended schools there, including Millburn High School and Newark Academy.
He received a bachelor of arts degree in economics in 1945 from Dartmouth College and attended Tuck School for a year. He resided in Plandome, N.Y., then retired to San Francisco, where he resided for 16 years until moving to Williamstown in 2003.
During his sophomore year at Dartmouth, he joined the Marine Corps, serving as a second lieutenant in the Pacific during World War II. He was recalled during the Korean War and served as a captain in Korea.
After the service, Mr. Douglas joined the former DuMont Television Network sales department in New York City. A few years later, he moved to NBC, working in the "Today," "Home" and "Tonight" sales departments.
After joining ABC Radio, he rose to executive vice president, national director of sales. After 25 years in broadcasting, he joined Warwick Advertising as a senior accounts executive. After retiring, he was employed part time as a starter at Taconic Golf Club
He enjoyed playing tennis and golf, and gardening.
He leaves his former wife, Gretchen "Gigi" Diehl Douglas of Williamstown; a daughter, Alexandra Cabral of Williamstown; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Gallagher of Houston, whom he raised; two sons, Theodore Douglas of San Francisco and Samuel Douglas of New Ashford; a stepson, Michael Gallagher of Stowe, Vt., whom he raised, and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services to celebrate the life of Theodore Miller Douglas, who died May 21, 2005, will be conducted Saturday at 10 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown by the Rev. Peter Elvin, rector.
Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, will be Friday from 7 to 9. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Berkshire County Humane Society, St. John's Church or the Renal Dialysis Unit at Berkshire Medical Center, all through the funeral home.
Survivors also include four grandchildren, Miles and Zack Douglas, and Timmy and Katie Gallagher. A sister, Joan House, predeceased him.
