Oliver Kingsbury

Oliver Kingsbury, 103, died Monday at Sweet Brook Care Centers, where he had resided for three years.

He received the oldest resident's cane when he was 101.

Born in Clifton, N.J., on July 17, 1902, son of Arthur R. and Eliza Webb Modemann Kingsbury, he was a graduate of schools there.

Mr. Kingsbury worked in advertising and was employed by Donahue & Coe Inc. in New York City, where he handled accounts including Metro Goldwyn Mayer.

He was a longtime member of Hitchcock Memorial Church in Scarsdale, N.Y., and past president of Scarsdale's Fox Meadow Tennis Club.

His retirement years were spent in Somers, N.Y., and in Williamstown.

His wife, the former Margaret Smith, whom he married Aug. 3, 1929, died in 1994.

He leaves two sons, James M. Kingsbury of Greenport, N.Y., and Robert R. Kingsbury of Williamstown; a daughter, Tirzah L. Kingsbury of Danbury, Conn.; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private graveside service for Oliver Kingsbury will be held at Hector Union Cemetery in Burdett, N.Y., on Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at 4. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hitchcock Presbyterian Church in Scarsdale, N.Y., or to the Church at Point O'Woods, Point O'Woods, N.Y., in care of ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240, which is handling arrangements.
