Richard Joseph Endres, 71, of 212 Bridges Road died yesterday at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt.
Born in Bronx, N.Y., on Jan. 31, 1934, son of William and Dorothy Morstatt Endres, he attended schools there and graduated from Evander Childs High School.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and was decorated with the National Defense and Navy Occupation medals.
In 1993, Mr. Endres moved to Williamstown and purchased The Villager Motel, which he operated with his wife, Rita, until 2000. Before that, he owned and operated Verdi Windows & Doors Co. in Port Washington, N.Y., for many years.
He was a communicant of St. Patrick and St. Raphael Parish and a member of the Adoration Chapel of Our Lady of Mercy Shrine in North Adams.
He was a member of Waubeeka Golf Club, where he played in the Thursday Evening League. He also enjoyed scuba diving and all sports.
He and his wife, the former Rita Law, would have celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary Oct. 23. They were married in 1954 at St. Francis of Rome Church in Bronx.
Besides his wife, he leaves six daughters, Karen Endres of Windham, N.Y., Laura Williams of Babylon, N.Y., Judith Endres of Danbury, Conn., Patricia Carr of Canton, N.Y., Monica Endres of Williamstown and Suzanne Madden of New York City; two sons, Richard Endres of Pensacola, Fla., and Philip Endres of Commack, N.Y.; a brother, Robert Endres of Hicksville, N.Y.; a sister, Dorothy Perdue of West Islip, N.Y., and 14 grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Richard Joseph Endres will be Friday at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Raphael's Church, Williamstown. Burial with military honors will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for Southwestern Vermont Cancer Center through the funeral home.
Survivors include 14 grandchildren, Kevin, Brian, Richard, James, Chloe, Shannon, Jude, Keith, Brigid, Kenneth, Phillip, Erin, Catherine and Meaghan; two daughters-in-law, Huong and Paulette, and three sons-in-law, Ian Wilson, Robert Carr and Anthony Madden.
