Edward H. Pennell, 83

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Edward Hart Pennell, 83, of Sweetwood Retirement Community died early Monday morning, Nov. 21, 2005, at home.
Born in New York City on Aug. 22, 1922, son of Henry B. Pennell II and Elizabeth Hart Pennell, he attended schools in Bronxville, N.Y., and graduated from the Taft School in Watertown, Conn., in 1939.
He also graduated from Williams College with honors in history in 1943. While at Williams, he was a member of Chi Psi Fraternity.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Pennell began his career at Hanover Bank in New York City before taking a post at Banker's Trust. He worked in the Southeastern Division and later in the Far West Division as head of commercial lending. In 1977, he retired from Banker's Trust and moved to Williamstown.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. He was very active in many Williams College and civic activities.
He and his wife, the former Edith Russell, were married April 29, 1961.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Katharine Pennell Beazley of Memphis, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Ellen R. Sibre of Annandale, Va.; a brother, Henry B. Pennell III of Washington Depot, Conn.; a sister, Eleanor Pennell of Bronxville, and four grandchildren, Kristen Beazley, Diana Beazley, Brendan Sibre and Kelly Sibre.
A son, Richard W. Pennell, died Sept. 16, 1996, and a stepson, A. Tomlin Goodman, died October 1977.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service to celebrate the life of Edward H. Pennell will be conducted Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown by the Rev. Peter T. Elvin, rector. A visitation with the family will take place Friday from 10 to 11 in the Upper Room of St. John's Church.
Inurnment will be in Christ Church in Bronxville, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to "Williams College in memory of Edward H. Pennell," Attention: Diana Elvin, 75 Park St. Williamstown, MA 01267.
Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, is in charge of arrangements.
