Bruno Rufo

Bruno Rufo, 77, of 61 Langlois Ave., a longtime area businessman and entrepreneur, died Saturday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Feb. 22, 1928, son of Candido and Maria Perruzza Rufo, he attended schools there and moved to Boston with his family, where he graduated from Boston Technical High School.

He was a decorated Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Rufo was employed with his family's construction business, Brighton Construction Co., in the Boston area. After moving to the town of Florida in 1964, he was self-employed as a contractor and mason. He also owned and operated several businesses in Berkshire County, including the Pot-Shop and the North Adams Dunkin' Donuts.

After his retirement, he spent several years in Coconut Creek, Fla., before moving to Williamstown.

He and his wife, the former Rosemarie "Rosemary" Lombardi, were married Sept. 5, 1954. She died Aug. 22, 2001.

He leaves a daughter, Candida Chilson of Cheshire; a son, Ronald Rufo of Springfield; a sister, Eugenia Reinholt of Lenox, and nine grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Mark Rufo, on June 30, 1989.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside services for longtime Berkshire County businessman and entrepreneur Bruno Rufo will be Wednesday at 11 at the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams, Mass., with the Rev. William Furey, pastor of Berkshire Chapel in Lanesborough, Mass., officiating.

Calling hours at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, CENTRAL CHAPEL, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, will be tomorrow from 4 to 7. Flowers may be sent or memorial donations are suggested for the charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.

Survivors include nine grandchildren, Stephanie, Ronnie, Sarah, Marica, Jesse Bruno and Dominic Rufo, Caila and Robbie Burke, and Esther Rose Chilson; a son-in-law, Edward Chilson; two daughters-in-law, Jamie Rufo Wojcik and her husband, Peter, and Bonnie Rufo, and a brother-in-law, Haldor Reinholt. His greatest love was his beloved wife of almost 47 years, Rosemary.
