Duncan Weet MacKenzie, 73, of 35 Longview Terrace died Tuesday at the Williamstown Commons after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Scarsdale, N.Y., on May 2, 1932, son the late Duncan R. MacKenzie and Winifred Weet MacKenzie, he graduated from Kent (Conn.) School.
He then graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor of science in wildlife management. He later graduated with a doctorate in entymology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served as a private first class military policeman.
He was then employed for 30 years as a professor at the former North Adams State College, now the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, retiring in 1998. Previously, he had been employed as a wildlife biologist in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
He was a longtime New York Yankees fan and a longtime member of the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown.
He leaves his wife of 46 years, Cynthia Taylor MacKenzie, whom he married Sept. 12, 1959.
He also leaves a son, Duncan Rae MacKenzie of Delmar, N.Y.; a daughter, Elizabeth MacKenzie Pooler of Bryn Mawr, Pa.; a sister, Jane MacKenzie Davidson of Mendham, N.J., and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Per his wishes, there will be no services for Duncan Weet MacKenzie, who died Feb. 14, 2006. FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams are in charge of arrangements.
He leaves four grandchildren, Danielle MacKenzie and Richard Pooler and Duncan Weet and Abigail Grace MacKenzie; a son-in-law, Kevin Pooler; a daughter-in-law, Amy MacKenzie; a niece, Julia Davidson-Hassan, and two nephews, Duncan and Earle Davidson.
