Alvin Louis Brassard

Alvin Louis Brassard, 77, of 94 Chestnut St. died Tuesday morning at North Adams Commons.

Born in Mooers Forks, N.Y., on Jan., 3, 1929, he was a son of the late Fred Brassard and Marceline Monette Brassard. He was educated in Mooers Forks schools.

Mr. Brassard began working as an automobile mechanic at the age of 15. In June of 1961, he moved to Williamstown to work for his nephew, Leonard Nichols, at Nichols Gulf on Spring Street. In November of 1967, he purchased the business with his son-in-law, Arthur Lafave and renamed it B&L Service Station, which he operated until his retirement on Jan. 1, 1993.

He was a communicant of St. Raphael's Church and was active on its Festival Committee, where he assisted in the making of meat pies for its annual sale. He was also a member of the former Williamstown Lions Club and of the Williamstown Board of Trade. His wife, the former Genevieve Arno Brassard, died June 19, 2000. They were married on December 1, 1951, in St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg, N.Y.

He leaves a daughter, Jean Lafave of Williamstown; a brother, Arthur Brassard of Mineville, N.Y.; three sisters, Eldora Decoste of Mooers Forks, Beatrice LaValley of Rouses Point, N.Y., and Rita LaValley of Plattsburg, N.Y.; two grandchildren; a great-grandson, and his loving companion, Carol Abate.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Alvin Brassard, who died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, will be celebrated Saturday, March 25, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown.

Burial will follow in the family lot in Eastlawn Cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams, will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Donations to St. Patrick and Raphael's Parish in care of the funeral home. Survivors include a son-in-law, Arthur Lafave; two grandchildren, James Alvin Lafave and his wife, Bonnie, of Rehoboth, and Rosemary Jean Lafave of Boston; a great-grandson, Brandon Lafave, and his loving companion, Carol Abate and her extended family, and nieces and nephews. A sister, Sr. Irene Brassard (Sr. St. Rita) FCSCJ, died Jan. 24, 2006.
