Tancred E. Jacob

Tancred E. Jacob, 78, of 900 North Hoosac Road died Tuesday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in North Adams on Dec. 25, 1927, a son of the late Tancred A. Jacob and Elizabeth Roche Jacob, he attended schools in Williamstown and graduated from the former Williamstown High School with the class of 1945, and from Williams College with the class of 1950.
Mr. Jacob also served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class from October 5, 1946 to February 22, 1948. He was employed by General Electric Co. in Pittsfield, and at the time of his retirement in 1989, he was the head of the payroll department in the Plastics Division.
Mr. Jacob was a communicant of St. Patrick and St. Raphael Parish and was a member of its former Holy Name Society, serving as treasurer. He was an active volunteer at church and worked in its meal ministry and on many of its committees. He also was active with the Church Men's Breakfast Club.
He was a former treasurer and board member of the Williamstown Boys' Club and its basketball program. He was a founding member of Little League Baseball in Williamstown and served as a board member for several years.
He leaves his wife, Stefania "Stevie" Ciejka Jacob, whom he married on May 2, 1952, in St. Stanislaus' Church, Adams; a son, Stephen M. Jacob, of Brandywine, Md.; two daughters, Susan Jacob of Alexandria, Va., and Jean Jacob of El Cerrito, Calif; a sister, Betsy Reed of West Keansburg, N.J., and three grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Tancred E. Jacob, who died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, will be celebrated Friday, March 24, at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown.
Burial will follow in the family lot in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. A vigil prayer service will take place Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick & Raphael Parish in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 W. Main St. North Adams, MA 01247. Survivors include a son-in- law, George Grinberg-Funes; a daughter-in-law, Sharon; three grandchildren, Ashley Grinberg, Matthew Grinberg and Sarah Jacob, and nieces and nephews. A sister, Marie Milne, is deceased.
