Robert L. Field

Robert L. Field, 80, of 51 Pines Lodge Park died Saturday at Williamstown Commons.
Born in Williamstown on Nov. 19, 1925, son of Harold and Alta Lee Field, he graduated in 1943 from the former Williamstown High School.
A Coast Guard veteran of World War II, he served as a seaman first class in Newfoundland.
Mr. Field was employed by the North Adams Transcript as a linotype operator and as a reporter, covering high school sports for many years. He retired in 1990.
He also worked at the Hartford Times and at the Albany Times Union. After his retirement, he continued reporting on sporting events at Mount Greylock Regional High School, including the football games.
He was a member of the Williamstown High School Fabulous Forties reunion group. He enjoyed playing golf and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Miami Dolphins.
His wife, the former Elsie Osmond, whom he married May 12, 1946, died March 25, 1996.
He leaves two daughters, Patricia Ellen Acosta of North Adams and Denise Brown of Adams; three sons, Robert William Field of Florence, Vt., Allan Harold Field of North Adams, and David Francis Field of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside services for Robert Lee Field, who died Saturday, April 1, 2006, will be held tomorrow at 2 at Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPEL, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
He also leaves a niece, Marge Williams of Hancock. He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
