Harriet Welch

Harriet Welch, 98, of 40 Laurie Dr. died Thursday at her home.

Born in North Adams on June 27, 1907, daughter of George B. and Marian Gallup Flood, she attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School.

She also attended Mount Holyoke College.

She was employed by the former North Adams Trust Co. before her marriage.

She was a longtime volunteer at North Adams Regional Hospital and with the American Red Cross blood drives. She was a member of the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown and a former member of the North Adams Country Club, and was very active in her daughters' youth activities.

On June 27, 1935, in North Adams, she married Neal William Welch, the former president of Sprague Electric Co. and chairman of its board of directors. He died June 8, 1999.

She leaves two daughters, Marian Esposito of North Adams and Mary Maxymillian of Pittsfield, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Harriet Welch, who died Thursday, April 6, 2006, will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams with the Rev. Edward King, pastor, officiating.

Private burial will take place in Westlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. There are no calling hours. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the charity of the donor's choice through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams MA 01247.

Mrs. Welch leaves two sons-in-law, Peter Esposito and James Maxymillian; four grandchildren, Maria Maxymillian Boone, Paul W. Esposito, Peter E. Esposito and Neal A. Maxymillian; four great-grandchildren, Teagan Maxymillian, Piper Maxymillian, Matthew Boone and Maxymillian Boone, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, George, Arthur and Robert Flood.
