MONROE, Mass. — Edward Albert Willey, 88, of 10 Willey Road died Saturday morning, May 27, 2006, at Williamstown Commons.
He was a 20-year member of the Monroe Board of Selectmen and a member of the Franklin County Selectmen's Association.
Born in North Adams on Jan. 2, 1918, son of Albert E. and Nettie Turner Willey, he attended schools in Monroe and North Adams, including Drury High School.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific on the LST 609 from Oct. 27, 1943, to Dec. 2, 1945, and was discharged with the rank of motor machinist's mate third class.
He also received his first class engineer's license while in the service.
Mr. Willey was employed by Deerfield Glassine Co. in Monroe as an engineer, retiring in 1981. Before that, he was employed by Stone & Webster Engineering Co. in Boston for five years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Readsboro, Vt., of Lodge 113 in Moosup, Conn., and of the American Legion in Shelburne Falls. He was also a 45-year member of the Masons.
He and his wife, the former Eleanor Olds, were married Oct. 17, 1959, in Norwich, Conn.
Besides his wife, he leaves a brother, Josiah Willey of Hinsdale, and a sister, Ellen Cote of Anderson, Calif.
His sister Anne Foote is deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Willey will be conducted Wednesday at 11 at Readsboro Baptist Church by the Rev. John Brigham, pastor.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire or to Shriners' Children's Hospital, both in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, CENTRAL CHAPEL, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements.
