WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Kenneth J. O'Neil, 95, of 76 Mooreland St. died Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born Williamstown on Nov. 7, 1910, son of James J. and Frances G. Waters O'Neil, he attended local schools.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served at Camp Siebert, Ala., in the 112th Chemical Division.
In February 1946, Mr. O'Neil purchased the former Christie's Market on Spring Street and opened under the name Ken's Market, which he operated until his retirement in October 1976.
Mr. O'Neil was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He also was a member of the former Holy Name Society at the church.
He was a retiree of the Williamstown Gale Hose Volunteer Fire Department and was the oldest member of the Richard A. Ruether Post 152 American Legion. He was a member of the Friendship Club at the Harper Center.
He and his wife, the former Thelma P. Frenier, were married Oct. 12, 1946.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Stephen K. O'Neil of Raymond, N.H.; a brother, Paul W. O'Neil of Winchester, and two grandchildren, two grandchildren, Katie and Thomas O'Neil.
He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Earl and Thomas O'Neil, Frances Brown and Mary Agnes Collins.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. O'Neil, who died Tuesday will be celebrated Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown. Burial with full military honors will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPELS, are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested for the St. Patrick's Food Pantry or to the Village Ambulance Service through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
