Gladys June Gilbert, 87, of 2403 Antigua Circle, Coconut Creek, Fla., died Tuesday at North Adams Regional Hospital.
She had been a resident of Sweet Brook Nursing Home in Williamstown for a short time. She was a longtime resident of Manhattan, moving to Florida 10 years ago.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 7, 1919, daughter of Emil and Bertha Minker Post, she attended schools in Brooklyn and graduated from high school there.
She also attended the College of William and Mary and New York University.
She was primarily a homemaker. At one time, she worked in the garment industry.
Mrs. Gilbert enjoyed playing bridge and Scottish dancing. She loved the opera. She also enjoyed knitting, reading and travel.
She and her husband, Irving Gilbert, were married Jan. 27, 1946. He died Sept. 2, 2005.
She leaves a daughter, Amy G. Wolfson of Harvard; a son, Roger P. Gilbert of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a brother, Roy Post of Chesterfield; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Gladys Gilbert, who died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, will be held tomorrow, Thursday, June 29, at 11 a.m. at Congregation Beth Israel, 53 Lois St., North Adams, with Rabbi Jeffrey Goldwasser officiating.
Burial will be in Baron Rothschild Cemetery in Staten Island, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
She also leaves a son-in-law, Richard; three grandchildren and their spouses, Jonquil Wolfson and her husband, Rabbi Jeffrey Goldwasser, of Williamstown, Abigail Wolfson of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Nathaniel Wolfson and his wife, Danielle, of Boston; two great-grandchildren, Talia Goldwasser and Eliana Goldwasser of Williamstown. A sister, Violet Zagory, is deceased.
