Hirsh Altusky

Hirsh Altusky, 91, of Cold Spring Road died Saturday at home.

Born in Poland on Nov. 3, 1914, son of Abraham and Ann Gewirtzman Altusky, he was educated there.

A Holocaust survivor, Mr. Altusky had a leadership role in the Warsaw Ghetto Resistance and was a founding member of the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors.

He immigrated in 1949 to New York, where he was an operations manager at Nelco, an import/export company, retiring in 1980.
He moved to Williamstown in 2001. Following the war, he wrote and spoke on Holocaust issues.

He and his wife, the former Sarah Cender, were married in 1946 in Germany.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Cipora Brown Feiner of Alford.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Hirsh Altusky, who died Aug. 5, 2006, will be conducted today, Aug. 8, at 1 at Ahavath Sholom Cemetery by Rabbi Andrew Klein.

He also leaves his son-in-law, Steven Feiner.
