Franklin Alan Baker

Franklin Alan Baker, 55, of 64 Pines Lodge Park died of cancer Wednesday at Williamstown Commons Care Center.
Born in Adams on Oct. 30, 1950, son of Franklin A. and Irene LaBelle Baker, he attended Adams schools and graduated from Charles H. McCann Technical High School in North Adams in 1969. He moved to Amherst in 1987.
Mr. Baker managed the McDonald's restaurant in North Adams for 12 years and was instrumental in its reconstruction. He then was supervisor of six stores under the same franchise for several years. He also worked as an operations manager for Circuit City in Springfield and as general manager of Staples in Hadley. In 2002, he became a franchise owner for Domino's in Easthampton.
After being diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer, he returned to the Berkshires. He and his wife, the former Susan Galli, opened Little Anthony's, a pizza parlor in North Adams, which she still operates.
While in Adams, he was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas and an altar server. He was an assistant scoutmaster of his sons' troops and a former member of Boy Scout Troop 38 in Adams and of a drum & bugle corps.
He and his wife celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary Aug. 31.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Anthony A. Baker of Holyoke and James L. Baker of North Adams; a daughter, Sonya Sue Baker Fox of Holyoke; two brothers, Ronald Baker and Brian Baker, both of North Adams; two sisters, Cynthia Harrington of Milford, N.H., and Cathy Gwozdz of Westford, Vt.; and a grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Franklin "Alan" Baker, who died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, will be Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 9 from TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Notre Dame Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic Community of Adams.
Burial will be at a later date, to be announced at the convenience of the family. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 4 to 7. Memorial donations may be made to the Anthony Alan Baker College Scholarship Fund through TD Banknorth, 90 Main St., North Adams, or through the funeral home. He was a supporter of his daughter's softball and baseball games. He was the world's best dad, never missing a teacher's conference or choir concert.
He also leaves a son-in-law, Atom; a grandson, Tyler Fox; a sister-in-law, Susan; his brother's partner, Tanya; two brothers-in-law, Martin and Arthur; eight nieces and nephews; and a great-niece and a great-nephew.
