George Harold Whipple Jr.

George Harold Whipple Jr., 79, of 55 Langlois Ave. died Wednesday at home.

Born in North Adams on June 17, 1927, a son of the late George H. Whipple Sr. and Gladys Palmer Whipple, he attended schools there.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was employed by Williams College as a dining hall manager for 13 years. Prior to that, he and his wife Dorothy owned and operated Dorothy's Luncheonette on Spring Street in Williamstown and later on State Road in North Adams. Previously, he worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams for 28 years.

Mr. Whipple moved to Lakeland, Fla., living there several years before moving back to Williamstown in 2004.

He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church.

He and his wife, the former Dorothy Grant, were married Oct. 19, 1946, in St. Francis' Church in North Adams.

Besides his wife of 60 years, he leaves a son, George H. Whipple III of Williamstown; a sister, Marge Blair of Lady Lakes, Fla.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A son, Bruce Whipple, died in 1982, and a daughter, Gail Hickling, died in 2001.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside services for George Harold Whipple Jr., who died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, will take place Monday at 10 a.m. at Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown.

There are no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Susan.
