Rachel Helen Garner

Rachel Helen Garner, 91, of 94 Nutmeg Lane died Saturday at North Adams Regional Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Clinton on April 27, 1915, daughter of Albert and Zenaide LaPlante Brooks, she moved to North Adams as a child and attended local schools.

Mrs. Garner was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams for 37 years, retiring in 1980.

She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church in North Adams and a member of the Sprague Electric Quarter-Century and Retirees' clubs. She was a former member of the Embroideries of America, LeCercle Francais Club, AARP and the Council of the Arts of Northern Berkshire.

Mrs. Garner was also a member of the Quilting Guild of Williamstown and remained a prolific quilt maker.

She leaves a son, John M. Garner of North Adams; a daughter, Madeleine Victor of Great Barrington; three sisters, Yvonne Simon of Woodford, Vt., Jeannette Trudeau of Great Barrington and Lorraine Martin of Bennington, Vt.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Following Rachel Helen Garner's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private burial at a later date will be at the bequest of her family. Memorial donations are suggested for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPEL, 521 West Main St., North Adams.

She also leaves a sister-in-law, Sophie Brooks of Clarksburg; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Garner; four grandchildren, Jason Garner and his wife, Maribeth, of North Adams, Jonna Racela and her husband, Jason, of Adams, and Jeffrey Victor of Pittsfield and Christian Victor of Palo Alto, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Mitchell and Christian Garner, and Allison and Amy Racela; and a sister-in-law, Sophie Brooks.

She was predeceased by a brother, Oliver Brooks, and a sister, Alice Chouinard.
