Rita B. Hamel Vanasse

Rita B. Hamel Vanasse, 90, of 50 Smith Ave. died early Tuesday morning at North Adams Commons.
Born in Lawrence on Oct. 2, 1916, daughter of the late Peter Hamel and Helen Charest Hamel, she attended schools in Lawrence.
She worked for Ayer Mill in Lawrence for 18 years, and later for Western Electric Co. in North Andover for 21 years, until her retirement in 1982.
She moved to the Berkshires in 1985.
Mrs. Vanasse was a member of the First Bible Baptist Church in North Adams.
She enjoyed knitting and meeting with friends.
She married the late Arthur A. Vanasse on July 4, 1939. Mr. Vanasse died Oct. 8, 1961.
She leaves a daughter, Susan M. Berger of Clarksburg; two sisters, Lorraine Auchterlonie of Andover and Theresa LaPlante of Salem, N.H.; and three grandchildren.
She is predeceased by four brothers, Gerard Hamel, Raymond Hamel, Richard Hamel and Maurice Hamel; and three sisters, Germaine Carney, Irene Auchterlonie and Julie Levesque.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Rita B. Hamel Vanasse, who died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, will be held Saturday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m., at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 W. Main St., North Adams, with the Rev. Eric Malahuk, pastor of First Bible Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Saturday morning, 9 a.m. until the funeral. Donations to First Bible Baptist Church may be made in care of the funeral home. Please omit flowers.
Mrs. Vanasse also leaves a son-in-law, David, of Clarksburg; her grandchildren, Andrew J. Colby and his wife, Nancy, of Charlton, Rebecca Lymberis and her husband, Paul, of Kirkland, Matthew Berger of North Adams; four great-granddaughters, Cassidy Colby, Marissa Colby, Joanna Lymberis and Sophia Lymberis; and nieces and nephews.
