Palm Rose Maruco, 89

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Palm Rose Maruco, 89, of 225 East 95th St., New York, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown, where she had been living for the past several years.

Born in North Adams on April 1, 1917, daughter of Frank Maruco and Maria Carmella Mancuso Maruco, she attended schools in North Adams, including Drury High School. She graduated from Wilfred Beauty Academy in New York.

Miss Maruco was a hairstylist in New York for many years. Later, she completed business school and was employed by Rolls Royce Engine Co. on Park Avenue in New York for 17 years, retiring in 1986.

She was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church in New York. While a resident of North Adams, she was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. She was volunteer at New York Hospital and at Mary Manning Nursing Home in New York. She was an artist and a painter.

She leaves three sisters, Rita Baker of Windsor, Conn., Anna Minicone of McLean, Va., and Viola Novak of Norfolk, Va., and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Fioramonte Maruco, Peter J. Maruco and Joseph Maruco; and two sisters, Emma Raithel and Carmela Matrigali.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Palm Rose Maruco, who died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, North Adams. Private burial will follow.

There will be no calling hours. Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, is in charge of arrangements.
