Ruth Venice McNicol-Herron

Ruth Venice McNicol-Herron, 79, of 82 Walnut St. died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Elizabeth McNicol of 7023 Horizon Circle, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.

Born in North Adams on March 22, 1928, daughter of William J. and Venice Jepson Spencer, she graduated from Drury High School in 1945.

She and her first husband, Alexander Cochrane White McNicol Jr., owned and operated McNicol's Store on North Hoosac Road from 1950 to 1979. Mr. McNichol died Dec. 31, 1985. They were married Oct. 26, 1946.

She was a member of First Baptist Church; Mountain Chapter 137, Order of Eastern Star; Naomi Chapter 17, Order of Eastern Star; Williamstown Grange; and North Berkshire Pomona Grange.

She also was past mother advisor of North Adams Rainbow Assembly 34.

She and her husband, Lawrence D. Herron, were married May 28, 1988.

Besides her husband and daughter, she leaves a son, Gilbert H. McNicol of Williamstown; two other daughters, Nancy Fournier of St. Cloud, Fla., and Peggy McNicol of Salt Lake City; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Another son, Alexander Cochrane White McNicol III, died Dec. 31, 1966.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ruth McNicol-Herron, who died Wednesday, April 18, 2007, with her children at her side, will be conducted Saturday, May 5, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in North Adams by the Rev. David Anderson, pastor. Burial will follow in the family lot in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. Calling hours at the church will be Saturday, May 5, from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Mrs. McNicol-Herron also leaves two sons-in-law, Richard Fournier and Brian Pliska, and nieces and nephews. Four siblings are deceased, Milton O., Arthur E. and William J. Spencer, and Helen M. Lightholder. FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams, is in charge of arrangements.
