Ruth Coleman

June 11, 2007

Ruth Coleman, 86, of Williamstown Commons, died there Monday.

Born in Merryville, La., on June 20, 1920, daughter of Frank and Eliza Byley Bowie, she was educated in schools in Louisiana.

A former longtime resident of New York City, she moved to Williamstown in the early 2000s to be near family.

While living in Manhattan, N.Y., Mrs. Coleman was employed as a nurse's aide.

She enjoyed crocheting.

Her husband, Daniel Coleman, died April 3, 1975.

She leaves a daughter, Janet Richardson of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, Lawrence Coleman of California; two brothers, Jesse Bowie of Columbus, Ohio, and Walter Bowie of Orange, Texas; and two granddaughters.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ruth Bowie Coleman, who died Monday, June 11, 2007, will be conducted today, June 14, at 10 a.m. at Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapels in Williamstown by the Rev. Peter Daniels, pastor of First Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. Calling hours were Wednesday at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPEL, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations may be made to "A Better Chance" through the funeral home.

She also leaves two granddaughters, Gina Coleman of Williamstown and Kiana Coleman of Issaquah, Wash. Two brothers, Robert and Ira Jenkins, and three sisters, Gladys Lynch, Edna Thompson and Inez Thomas, are deceased.
