Elaine Talcott Whitney

Elaine Talcott Whitney, 83, of 253 Sand Springs Road died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

Born in Oxford, Iowa, on Aug. 31, 1923, daughter of Daniel J. and Grace Danforth Goodrich, she moved to Williamstown at a young age and was educated in local schools.

Mrs. Whitney was a homemaker. She was employed at one time by the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams.

She attended White Oaks Congregational Church, where she served as an organist for 40 years.

She also served as organist for Second Congregational Church of South Williamstown and for Mountain Chapter 137, Order of Eastern Star, for 36 years.

She enjoyed music, birds and flower gardening.

Her husband, Robert Leslie Whitney, whom she married May 27, 1950, died March 24, 2001.

She leaves a daughter, Debbie J. Whitney of Belchertown, and a sister, Phyllis D. Wiles of Williamstown.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Elaine T. Whitney, who died Friday, July 13, 2007, will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at White Oaks Congregational Church, 480 White Oaks Road, Williamstown, by the Rev. Connie Ekback, pastor.

Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapel, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Mountain Chapter 137, Order of Eastern Star, will conduct its service at 6:30 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested for Hospice & VNA of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home, or flowers may be sent.

She also leaves a son-in-law, Michael Konstan of Belchertown; three nieces, Elizabeth Wiles Garcia, Nancy Wiles Griffin and Diane Wiles Miller, all of North Adams; four nephews, Frank E. Wiles Jr. of Pittsfield, Alan Wiles of Williamstown and David Wiles of Adams; and grandnieces and grandnephews. A brother, Charles Dayton Hooper, is deceased.
