Catherine B. Ackley

Catherine B. Ackley, 90, of 35 Adams Road, Meadowvale Apartments, died yesterday at Williamstown Commons.

Born in Pittsfield on March 11, 1917, daughter of William J. and Sophie Biesiegel Beals, she attended schools there.

Mrs. Ackley was employed as a waitress at Four Acres Restaurant, retiring at the age of 76. Before that, she was a waitress at Tyler Restaurant, at the Soda Chef and at the former Peter's Diner, all in Pittsfield. She also was employed at one time by General Electric Co.

She was a former member of First Congregational Church of Pittsfield and a member of Silver Star Rebecca Lodge, where she served as grand marshal for several years, and a former president of the Friendship Club at the Harper Center.

She leaves a son, Fred Ackley of Williamstown; a daughter, Marcia Orazio of Dalton; a brother, Ernest W. Beals of Dalton; and five grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Catherine Beal Ackley, who died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church of Dalton by the Rev. Robert Kyte. Burial will follow in Main Street Cemetery in Dalton.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapel, 521 W. Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for the Williamstown Friendship Club or for the charity of the donor's choice.

She leaves a daughter-in-law, Deborah Ackley; a son-in-law, Louis Orazio; five grandchildren, Ross and Ryan Ackley, Adam and Melissa Orazio, and Lisa Steiner; and a grandson-in-law, Luke Steiner. She was predeceased by two brothers, Earl and William Beals, and by two sisters, Alice Walstad and Anna Flanders. After retiring as a waitress, she truly missed her customers.
