Barbara Sylvester, 69

September 30, 2007

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Barbara Sylvester, 69, of 106 Water St. died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

Born in North Adams on Dec. 23, 1937, daughter of Theodore Garrison Sr. and Mable Blake Garrison, she attended schools in Williamstown and graduated from the former Williamstown High School in 1956.

Mrs. Sylvester was employed by the former Nicholas Books, retiring in 1999. Before that, she was employed by the former New England Telephone Co. for several years.

She was a member and past worthy matron of the Williamstown Order of Eastern Star. She collected dolls, stuffed bears and Hummels and enjoyed baking and decorating cakes. She was also a silversmith.

She and her husband, Paul A. Sylvester, were married in May 1957 at First Congregational Church.

Besides her husband, she leaves four sisters, June Gaffey of North Adams, Patricia Chilson of Williamstown, and Beverly Walsh and Virginia Darling, both of Pownal, Vt., and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Theodore Garrison Jr.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mrs. Sylvester, will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at First Congregational Church in Williamstown by the Rev. Carrie Bail.

Burial will follow in the family plot in Southlawn Cemetery, South Williamstown. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the Williamstown House of Local History, American Diabetes Association or Shriners' Children's Hospital, all in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPEL, 521 West Main St., North Adams.
