James C. Bassi Sr.

July 28, 2001

James Christian Bassi Sr., 64, of 84 Bachand Ave. died Saturday at North Adams Regional Hospital. He owned and operated the former M.F.I. Furniture Store on State Road from 1985 to 1990.

Born in Manchester, N.H., on May 3, 1937, son of Pietro and Della Lejoie Bassi, he moved to Pittsfield at the age of 6 and was a 1955 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also graduated from El Camino College in California, where he studied law.

Mr. Bassi was employed as a furniture salesman with companies throughout the United States for several years. In 1974, he established Master Craft Restoration & Refinishing Furniture Co.

He leaves his wife, the former Anita Rosa, whom he married March 6, 1971, in Pittsfield; two daughters, Jamey Bassi of Baltimore and Susan Timmons of the state of New York; two sons, James C. Bassi Jr. of San Diego and Stephen Bassi of Los Angeles; three stepdaughters, Christine Collins of Stamford, Vt., Patrice DeSanty and Antoinette Soucie, both of North Adams; a stepson, Gerald Toomey of Phoenix; a sister, Sandra Costa of Dalton; 13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Thursday at 11 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with the Rev. Marlene Sweeney, pastor of Door of Hope Church in Readsboro, Vt., officiating. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
