Veronica Murphy

Veronica Murphy, 79, of 36 Cobbleview Road died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in New York City on Feb. 27, 1928, daughter of Richard and Veronica Simmons Hickey, she attended schools there and graduated from St. Augustine's High School.
While in New York, Mrs. Murphy was employed by the Waldorf Astoria for several years. She was crowned the first queen of the first New York City subway. In 1967, she moved to Williamstown, where she owned and operated the Williams Inn Country Store and was an antiques dealer and flea marketeer. She also was employed by Aubuchon Hardware and at Wild Oaks stores.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick-Raphael's Parish and an active member of the Friendship Club at the Harper Center.
She is credited with naming the Williamstown Council on Aging's van "VAN GO." She enjoyed playing bingo and doing crossword puzzles.
She leaves a daughter, Maureen Murphy Doborwicz of Williamstown; two sons, Terence J. Murphy of Clancy, Mo., and Ronald T. Murphy of Avon, Conn.; a sister, Barbara Carlson of Norco, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sons, John Richard Murphy on June 5, 2001, and Joseph Murphy in infancy.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Veronica Murphy, who died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, will be celebrated tomorrow at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown by the Rev. Mark Burke.
Burial will be at a later time. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the Williams Harper Center or the Williamstown Youth Center through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapel, 521 West Main St. North Adams. She also leaves two daughters-in-law, Maggie (Ronald) and Jean (Terence); a son-in-law, Robert; seven grandchildren, Travis Doborwicz, and Allison, Brian, Danny, Tess, Connor and Eric Murphy. A great-grandchild, Saylor Murphy, is expected to be delivered in February 2008.
She was predeceased by a sister, Joan Kelly, in 2005. Mrs. Murphy was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family and friends, shopping and going to tag sales.
