Rose D. Korn

Rose D. Korn, 98, of Sweetwood, 1611 Cold Spring Road, formerly of Rockaway Park, N.Y., died Sunday at home.
She moved to Williamstown in 1992.
Born in North Adams on June 9, 1909, daughter of Samuel and Annie Kronick Shapiro, she graduated from Drury High School in 1926. She attended Simmons College and earned degrees in English and psychology from Boston University in 1930.
Mrs. Korn, primarily a homemaker, was a member of Temple Beth El in Rockaway and was a lifetime member of Hadassah. She was the last known surviving member of the original Drury High School marching band, which played for President Coolidge in Washington, D.C.
Her husband, Nathan Korn, whom she married in 1934, died May 30, 1985.
She leaves three sons, Michael Korn of Los Altos, Calif., Donald Korn of Nashville, Tenn., and Gerald Korn of Laredo, Texas; two sisters, Helen Maislen of Pittsfield and Lillian Glickman of North Adams; a brother, Alan Shapiro of North Adams; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Private burial services for Rose Korn, who died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, will be held in Montefiore Cemetery in Queens, N.Y. A memorial service was held at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah or to VNA-Hospice of North Berkshire, both in care of the funeral home.
She also leaves two daughters-in-law, Barbara and Laura; a sister-in-law, Lorraine; eight grandchildren, David, Ze'ev, Paul, Peter, Jennifer, Ben, Anna and Julia; seven great-grandchildren, Amichai, Emily, Daniel, Elizabeth, Katie, Sofia and Eve; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Sheldon Shapiro, and two sisters-in-law, Sydelle (Stanley) and Sandy (Sheldon) Shapiro.
