Williamstown - Amy E. Deeb, 79, of 264 Sand Springs Road died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Andover, England, on March 12, 1928, daughter of Reginald and Anne Willis Smith, she graduated from high school in Andover in 1945. She emigrated to Troy, N.Y., where she lived for two years, then lived in Pittsfield and in Lanesboro.
In 1959, she moved to Williamstown, where she and her husband, Gordon V. Deeb, established the former Country Pedlar. They operated it until 1970. In 1963, they purchased Pedrin's Dairy Bar in North Adams, which she operated until her death. Mr. Deeb died Sept. 12, 1995.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church and enjoyed playing bingo.
She and her husband were married Dec. 17, 1945, in Tidworth, England.
She leaves a daughter, Peggy Oleskiewicz of Williamstown; a son, Gordon P. Deeb of Hickory, N.C.; a sister, Joan Gebbels of Kent, England; a brother, Michael Smith of Oxford, England; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Dea Lynn Deeb, died in 1995.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Amy E. Deeb, who died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the National Kidney Foundation through TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, which is in charge of arrangements. The impact of Amy's 45 years of ownership of Pedrin's Dairy Bar and the hundreds of student employees' lives that she touched is something that she will always be remembered for.
Amy also leaves a son-in-law, Alan; three grandchildren, Melissa McCauley, Jennifer Davis and Amber McLain; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Ashley; two great-great-grandchildren, Sean-Patrick and Haley; and several nieces and nephews.
