Ann B. Durrell, 80

January 10, 2008

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Ann Brown Durrell, 80, of Fox Crossing Road, Bridgton, Maine, mother of Constance Sheehy of Williamstown, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at home.

Born in Ossining, N.Y., on Oct. 18, 1927, daughter of Robert and Claridel Goodrich Eshbaugh, she graduated from The Masters School and from Lake Erie College, where she majored in biology and was a member of the varsity swim team. She was a former resident of Dorset, Vt.

Mrs. Durrell was a homemaker. She raised her four children in Radnor, Pa., where she kept the cookie and candy jars full for her children and their friends. In retirement, she applied her green thumb to gardens in Southern Vermont and, lastly, southwest Maine. A voracious reader and lover of the written word, she completed The New York Times crossword puzzle on a daily basis and was an enthusiastic Scrabble player.

She enjoyed working with her hands, and one of her larger projects, a Colonial dollhouse, has been displayed in the window of Krainin Real Estate in Bridgton for the past two Christmas holiday seasons. She also was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. She reserved her most ardent support for her family.

An avid gardener, she created and maintained lovely landscapes while encouraging the play of neighborhood pickup football and Wiffle ball games on her front lawn.

She and her husband, Joseph H. Durrell Jr., were married 58 years.

Besides her husband, and her daughter and son-in-law Harry Sheehy, she leaves two sons, James Durrell of Bridgton and William Durrell and his wife, Michele, of Moretown, Vt.; another daughter, Lynn Karidis and her husband, John, of Ossining, N.Y.; a brother, Robert Eshbaugh of Leesburg, Fla., and two grandchildren, Amy Karidis and Jed Durrell.

She was predeceased by her brother Willis Eshbaugh of Fort Myers, Fla.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service for Mrs. Durrell will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements by RAYMOND-WENTWORTH FUNERAL HOME, 8 Elm St., Bridgton, Maine.
