Archer A. Jones Jr., 83

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Archer Albridge Jones Jr., 83, of 58 Bachand Ave., died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, Vt.

Born in North Adams on April 16, 1925, son of Archer A. and Jessie Latimer Jones, he attended schools in North Adams.

A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he served in Pacific theater and received the Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze star and the Purple Heart, among others.

Mr. Jones was the owner and operator of Arch & Ed's Auto Body in Williamstown for many years until his retirement.
He had first worked at the former Harry Smith Ford in North Adams after the war.

He was a longtime member of the East Mountain Sportsmen's Club. He loved traveling in his motor home, wintering in Florida, fishing and gardening, and spending time with his granddaughter Brianna Jones.

His wife, the former Jeanette M. Burdick Cummings, whom he married June 2, 1988, died Dec. 15, 2005.

Besides his granddaughter, he leaves two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Donna Jones of Wakefield, R.I., and Richard and Deborah Jones of Williamstown; three daughters, Carolyn Jones of North Adams, Eileen Jones of San Francisco and Susan Polo of Sunnyvale, Calif.; two sisters, Mildred E. Tatro of Clarksburg and Lilla Dickinson of North Adams; a stepson, Richard Cummings of Pownal, Vt.; his mother-in-law, Hazel Burdick of Williamstown; seven other grandchildren, Lauren Jones, Kristen Jones, Brandie Lau, Katy Markland, Jenna Markland, Ella Polo and Mia Polo, and nieces and nephews.

A sister, Edna Burdick, is deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Archer Jones will be private and there will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Veterans Home or VNA & Hospice of North Berkshire in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
