Joan B. Green, 83

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Joan Beatrice Green, 83, of 118 Church St., died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at North Adams Regional Hospital.

Born June Beatrice Lillian in New Brunswick, N.J., on Dec. 21, 1924, daughter of Ime and Grace Linsky Rose, she moved to Pittsfield at age 13 to live with her grandmother, Rose Cooper Linsky, after her mother's death. She also lived with her aunt and uncle, Hyman and Hannah Linsky Reder, and her cousin L. George Reder. She graduated from Pittsfield High School and attended the art school associated with the Corcoran Art Gallery in Washington, D.C. She moved to Williamstown in 1965.

Ms. Green was one of the first women to take art courses at Williams College. She gave private art lessons to children for a time. During World War II, she worked as a secretary.

She exhibited her paintings at the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield and was a longtime member of the Berkshire County Sketch Group. She also enjoyed gardening, interior decoration and culinary arts. She was a devoted mother.

She married Walter W. Green in 1945. They were married 20 years.

She leaves two sons, Gary Green of Berkeley, Calif., and Graham "Lee" Green of Redwood City, Calif.

A brother, Dr. Leonard Rose of San Diego, died in 2005.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Graveside committal services for Joan Green will be Thursday, Nov. 6, at 2 in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. There will be no calling hours. Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, at 521 West Main St., North Adams, is in charge of arrangements.
