Raymond A. Mason Sr., 83

November 14, 2008

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Raymond Allsop Mason Sr., 83, of Strafford, N.H., formerly of Williamstown, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at home following a long illness.

Born in Williamstown, son of Ralph Clinton Mason Sr. and Mabel Allsop Mason, he graduated in 1944 from Williston Academy, where he was an active leader of his class and three sports teams, and, in 1950, from Williams College.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served with Gen. George S. Patton's 3rd Army and received the Purple Heart and bronze star medals for his service.

Mr. Mason was employed by the Williamstown Savings Bank for his entire career as assistant treasurer, treasurer and, eventually, as vice president.

He remained an active supporter of athletics at Williams through his participation in the Quarterback Club. Also active in community service, he was a member of the Williamstown Lions Club and Williams Lodge AF&AM and led several fund raising campaigns for local charities. In his younger years, he was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where he served as an altar boy.

Family was extremely important to him, and although he was an active sports enthusiast, following the New York Yankees and New Hampshire Fisher Cats, his grandchildren's school teams were his primary interest.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Rosalee Greene.

He leaves two sons, Raymond Mason Jr. and Peter Mason; a daughter, Rosamond Mason; a brother, Ralph Mason Jr., and five grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Raymond Mason will be conducted Monday, Nov. 17, at 2 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown by the Rev. Peter Elvin, rector. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.

Calling hours at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams are Sunday from 4 to 6. Memorial donations may be made to the Strafford emergency medical technicians or the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
