Joan C. Tovani, 76

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Joan Carol Tovani, 76, of 25 Pines Lodge Park died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield.

Born in North Adams on June 10, 1932, daughter of Anthony and Ida Falbo Tovani, she attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School. She attended Elms College and graduated from the former North Adams State College, from which she also received her master's degree in teaching.

Miss Tovani taught third-grade in the North Adams School System, retiring from the former Johnson School.

She was a longtime communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church in North Adams and a former member of its Rosary Society. She also attended St. Patrick's Church. She enjoyed painting, calligraphy and gardening. She was a member of the local Right to Life chapter.

She leaves her sister, Jean Lamore and her husband, Leo, of North Adams; her aunt, Evelyn Falbo of Williamstown; her nephew, Craig Lamore of Clarksburg; her niece, Suzanne Lamore of Jacksonville, Fla., and cousins.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Miss Tovani will be celebrated Wednesday Dec. 31, at 11 at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, are Wednesday morning from 9 until 10:30. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation in care of the funeral home.
