Elmira Cheesbro, 99

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Elmira Cheesbro, 99, died peacefully Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at Williamstown Commons.
Born in North Adams on March 5, 1910, the daughter of Frederick and Celia Courtney Little, she graduated from Drury High School in 1927, and completed the course at the former Bliss Business School.
In her younger years, Mrs. Cheesbro was a bookkeeper at Pratt & Whitney Credit Union in East Hartford, Conn., and at the former Richmond Hotel in North Adams.
She was an avid golfer and a 58-year member of the Taconic Golf Club, retiring at the end of the 2006 season. She was also an excellent bridge player and, until recently, played regularly at the Harper Center.
Her husband, Gordon Cheesbro, whom she married on Aug. 29, 1930, died in January 1998.
She leaves three sons, Alexander Cheesbro and his wife, Barbara, and Bruce Cheesbro and his wife, Carolyn, all of North Adams, and Edward Chesbro; five grandchildren, Wayne Cheesbro, Michael L. Cheesbro and Aaron Cheesbro, all of North Adams, Michael H. Cheesbro of Wethersfield, Conn., and Linda Kapetan of Las Vegas; seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by two brothers, J. DeVer Little in 1998 and Fred "Art" Little, and her grandchildren Neal Cheesbro and Joan Cheesbro.
FUNERAL NOTICE — At Mrs. Cheesbro's request, there will be no funeral service or calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
