Clifford V. Champney, 90

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Clifford V. Champney, 90, of 118 Church St. died Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Sweet Brook Care Centers.

Born in Adams on July 25, 1919, son of Alfred and Josephine Bechard Champney, he attended Adams schools.

Mr. Champney was employed at Williams College for 10 years, retiring in 1981. After his retirement, he worked at the Williamstown Youth Center for many years.

He was a communicant of Sts. Patrick & Raphael Parish. He enjoyed playing cards.

He and his wife, the former Rachel DeBlois, were married on Jan. 3, 1942, in the former Notre Dame Church in Adams.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Sandra J. Daub and her husband, Leon, of North Adams; three sons, Ronald Champney and his wife, Lona, of Haughton, La., Michael Champney and his wife, Wendy, of North Adams and Mark Champney and his wife, Mary, of the town of Florida; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased his son Allen Champney on Jan. 10, 1988, seven sisters, including Rena R. Sobczyk, and two brothers.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service for Mr. Champney will be held Tuesday, April 6, at 11 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.

A calling hour will be held Tuesday morning from 10 to 11. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home.
