WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Reinhold M. Ott, 67, of Thornliebank Road died Sunday, July 11, 2010, peacefully at home.
Born in Friedrichshafen, Germany, on June 9, 1943, son of Johann and Maria Ott, he studied automotive mechanics before emigrating to the United States to pursue his dreams in 1961.
A longtime local businessman, Mr. Ott spent his career in the automotive field in Berkshire County, eventually becoming a new car dealer. Ott & Berger, operated with partner Ewald Berger, offered foreign cars and repair services on North Hoosac Road. He relished working with his sons in the business.
He served his community on the Williamstown Board of Trade, with Lions Club and as a corporator for the Williamstown Savings Bank. He greatly enjoyed vacationing and traveling with friends and family, spending precious time with his grandchildren, working outdoors and walking his beloved dogs. He was a history buff, loved the thrill of Formula One racing, dancing with his wife, Carole, and tinkering on repair projects. He brought joy to his friends and family with his unique sense of humor and touched the life of everyone he encountered with kindness, concern or by lending a helping hand, said family.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Stephen Ott and his wife, Kirsten, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Eric Ott of Williamstown; three brothers, Max, Hans and Franz Ott and their wives, all in Germany; three grandchildren, Max, Ellie and Sam Ott, and his dog, Daphne, a niece and three nephews.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mr. Ott will take place Saturday, July 17, at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Williamstown.
Calling hours will take place Friday, July 16, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.
