Jean M. Gomeau, 90

August 19, 2010

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Jean Muriel Gomeau, 90, of 75 Champagne Ave. died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at home.

Born in North Adams on Oct. 21, 1919, daughter of Sceva and Ellspeth Lawson Whitney, she graduated from Drury High School in 1938.

A Women's Marine Corps veteran of World War II, she served as a corporal stationed in Washington, D.C., from 1944 to 1946.

Mrs. Gomeau was employed by the state of Massachusetts in its employment office in North Adams for 20 years until her retirement.

She was a member of First Congregational Church in North Adams.

She and her husband, Francis "Frank" Gomeau, were married on Nov. 30, 1949, at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Nancy Gomeau Christian of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a son, Robert Gomeau and his wife, Deborah, of Pownal, Vt.; a brother, James L. "Skip" Whitney of North Adams; two grandchildren, Dale Gomeau and Elisha Santarcangelo, three great-grandchildren, Peyton, Paige and Aiden, and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son Richard Gomeau in 1957; a grandson, Robert Gomeau Jr., two sisters and seven brothers, Helen Dion, Margaret Dennis and Brayton, William B., Donald, Clinton, Kenneth, Sceva and John Whitney.

FUNERAL NOTICE: — Graveside services for Mrs. Gomeau will be held Saturday morning, Aug. 21, at 9 in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.

Jean was the sweetest lady, my family and I had the privilege of knowing her for many years. She will be missed........our deepest sympathies go out to her wonderful family.
