WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Catherine Virginia Bassey, 95, of 80 Nutmeg Lane died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Williamstown Commons.
Born in New York City on April 25, 1915, daughter of Walter and Anna Gottfried Heffernan, she graduated from New Town High School in New York City.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Bassey raised more than 50 foster children.
She and her husband, John A. Bassey Sr., moved to Williamstown in 1971 and she was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church.
Her husband, whom she married on June 24, 1933, died on July 7, 1993.
She leaves two sons, John A. Bassey Jr. of North Bellmore, N.Y., and Walter R. Bassey of Troy, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Two sisters are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Bassey will be Monday, Nov. 15, at 10:15 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 at St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Sunday, Nov. 14, from 2 to 5 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home.
