WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Richard B. Torrey, 84, of 58 Luce Road died on Friday, April 8, 2011, at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in Williamstown on Feb. 2, 1927, a son of Chauncey E. and Maude Harrison Torrey, he graduated from the former Williamstown High School.
A proud veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, he served in the Navy and in the Marines.
Mr. Torrey oversaw operations at the former Aiken Chemical and the Photech companies for many years as a plant supervisor. He also was a bartender at the 1896 House and the former Taconic Restaurant.
He was a member of the Greylock Community Club and Dr. George L. Curran VFW Post 996, both in North Adams, and Richard A. Ruether American Legion Post 152.
His wife, the former Margaret Lewis, whom he married July 15, 1961, in First Congregational Church, died in March 1985.
He leaves two stepdaughters, Maggie Tisdale Siracusa of Lanesborough and Bobbie Tisdale King of Shaftsbury, Vt.; a brother, Edwin Torrey of Bennington, Vt.; his dear friend Sharon Thomas of North Adams, and many nieces and nephews.
His siblings Jane Sharkey and Norman Torrey predeceased him.
FUNERAL NOTICE A graveside service with military honors to celebrate the life of Mr. Torrey will take place Saturday morning, May 7, at 11 at the family plot in Westlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. All who knew Dick are welcome; a reception will follow at the Williams Inn.
