Raymond E. Williams, 89

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Raymond Edward Williams, 89, of Church Street died Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Williamstown Commons.
Born in North Adams on Dec. 12, 1921, the son of Thomas and Eliza Thomas Williams, he was raised in the city's Blackinton section and attended the former Archer School. He graduated from Drury High School in 1940.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a medical technician and military police officer in France and England.
Mr. Williams retired from the former General Electric Co. in Pittsfield in December 1983, after 32 years in the Plastics Research and Development Department.
He was a member of Stamford (Vt.) Community Church and, in his youth, attended St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Blackinton. He was also a member of Richard A. Ruether Post 152 American Legion and Donald H. Meekin Jr. Post 8304 VFW. He enjoyed his friends, neighbors and his winters on Anna Maria Island, Fla. He loved the Red Sox, golf and a good Western movie. He also enjoyed gatherings with friends and relatives, good food and lots of laughter. His sense of humor was a true gift.
Mr. Williams is remembered by his friends and family as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.
He leaves his wife, Frances M. Williams; his son, Raymond E. Williams Jr.; his daughter, Susan Williams; his stepson, Alan Senecal and Philip Senecal, and stepdaughter, Susan Senecal Clairmont; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his former wife, Eleanor Aspinal Williams; his sisters Marion Brownsword, Helen Cutler and Ruth Crapo, and his brother Thomas Williams.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mr. Williams will take place Thursday, July 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels. Burial with military honors will be private in Eastlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Wednesday evening, July 20, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Church or Village Ambulance of Williamstown through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
His family would like to thank the staff of Williamstown Commons and Hospice of Northern Berkshire for their care, comfort, love and support.
