Lela J. Deinzer, 87

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Lela June Deinzer, 87, of Woodlawn Drive died peacefully Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at the Sweet Brook Care Centers with family by her side.

Born in Owosso, Mich., on Feb. 23, 1924, daughter of Robert Roy and Lucille Hamilton Rundell, she graduated in 1941 from Owosso High School and in 1947 from Michigan State University with a degree in medical technology. She moved Lanesborough in 1967 and to Williamstown in 1976.

Mrs. Deinzer worked in medical technology for 12 years before stopping to raise her family. She returned to the medical profession as a transcriptionist in 1972, working at Berkshire Medical Center and Hillcrest Hospital, both in Pittsfield, until retiring in 1989.

She was devoted to her family, enjoyed gardening and listening to big band music. She was a member of the League of Women Voters for many years. In her youth, she was a drum majorette, president of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Christian Endeavor at the Church of Christ. She was affectionately called "June bug" by her family and friends. After retiring, she and her husband spend 10 years in Palm Harbor, Fla.; she returned to the Berkshires after his death.

Her husband, Louis George Deinzer, whom she married on Aug. 31, 1947, died Sept. 18, 1999.

She leaves her daughter, Deborah Jane Fox and her husband, Kirk, of Cambridge, N.Y.; her son, John Stuart Deinzer of Boston; two brothers, Gene Rundell and his wife, Marge, of Traverse City, Mich., and James R. Rundell of Jacksonville, Fla., and her grandson, Sammy Fox.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Friends and family are invited to celebrate Mrs. Deinzer's life at a memorial service at First Congregational Church of Williamstown on Thursday, July 28, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at the Williams Inn from noon to 2. In the fall, her ashes will be buried in Clearwater, Fla., next to her husband.
