Everett F. Stone, 87

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Everett Franklin Stone, 87, of 113 Main St. died Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at Sweet Brook Care Centers.

Born in Williamstown on Oct. 27, 1923, son of Elmer and Bessie Elwell Stone, he graduated from the former Williamstown High School in 1941.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he re-enlisted in 1966 in the Navy Reserves and served until December 1983 for a combined 20 years of service.

Mr. Stone was employed by John Hancock Insurance Co. in Boston for about 20 years. He resided in Framingham and then moved to Sunderland, where he worked for the town and at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He returned to Williamstown in 1999.

He attended St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams. He was a member of the National Associates of Stationary Steam Engineers. He was also a member of the VFW, Richard A. Ruether Post 152 American Legion, and a life member of the Williamstown Grange. He enjoyed gardening.

His wife, the former Phyllis Walker, whom he married on Oct. 11, 1947, died June 20, 2007.

He leaves three daughters, Brenda G. Carroll of Oxford, Sheree N. Saunders of Rochester, N.H., and Marilee P. Swindell of Temple, N.H.; two sons, Ronald E. Stone of Brattleboro, Vt., and Gary A. Stone of Medford; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

A sister, Dorothy Blake, is deceased.


FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Stone will be Thursday, Sept. 22, at 11 at Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 4 to 7 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Donations are suggested to Sampson State Park the Williamstown American Legion or the Memory Clinic in Bennington, Vt., in care of the funeral home.
