William B. Davis, 95

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — William Blackinton Davis, 95, of 35 Adams Road, formerly of Elm Street, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at home.
Born in North Adams on Dec. 21, 1915, a son of Clifford and Martha Morris Davis, he attended the former Archer School in the city's Blackinton section.
Mr. Davis was employed for many years at the former Sprague Electric Co. and later as a commercial house painter. He then drove a taxi in the area.
A civic leader for many years, he held offices with the Richard A. Ruether Post 152 American Legion and the Lafeyette Club and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, both in North Adams. He was a member of First Baptist Church and a longtime member of the Greylock Community Club in North Adams, where he served as president for 25 years. He also enjoyed bowling and singing in church.
His wife, the former Constance Mary Prescott Davis, whom he married March 6, 1935, died Dec 6, 2002.
He leaves two daughters, Prudence Gravel of North Adams and Diane E. Paul of Great Barrington; two sons, Harvey A. Davis of Charleston, S.C., and Wilfred C. Davis of Miami Springs, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Robin Bleezarde, John Gravel Jr., Brian Gravel, Donna Roper, Ronald Davis, Jason Paul, Craig Paul Jr. and William Paul, 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, his twin, Wilson Davis, and Richard Davis, and five sisters, Prudence, Barbara, Leatrice, Cyrilida and Elizabeth.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Davis will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 19, at 11 from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
A calling hour will be held Saturday morning from 10 until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Elder Services of Northern Berkshire.
