Henry J. Kalisz, 75

March 13, 2012

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Henry John Kalisz, 75, of 1011 North Hoosac Road died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at his home after a long illness.

Born in Adams on Jan. 25, 1937, a son of Henry and Sophie Leja Kalisz, he graduated from St. Stanislaus Kostka School and the former Adams Memorial High School. He also graduated from the former North Adams State Teachers College and earned his master's degree in education from its successor, North Adams State College. He earned a master's degree in history from Arizona State University in Tempe.

Mr. Kalisz began his teaching career at what was then C.T. Plunkett Junior High School in Adams. He later taught at both the former Haskins Junior High School and at McCann Technical School, both in North Adams, and ended his career as a social studies teacher at Nessacus Middle School in Dalton.

He was an active communicant of Sts. Patrick and Raphael Parish, where he was a volunteer for the St. Raphael's annual festival. He was a member of the Massachusetts Teacher Association and the Retired Teachers of Berkshire County. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and being a member of the McDonalds Coffee Club. But his greatest joy was spending time with family and friends and his beloved grandchildren.

He and his wife, the former Carole Mazza, whom he married July 4, 1963, in the former St. Anthony of Padua Church in North Adams.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mary Boyle and her husband, R. Alexander Boyle, of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; a son, John T. Kalisz and his wife, Jaime, of New Lebanon, N.Y.; a sister, Marcella Kalisz of North Adams, and his two beloved grandchildren, Gabriel J. Kalisz and Grace Emily Kalisz.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 17, at 10 a.m. at Sts. Patrick and Raphael Church in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Friday, March 16, from 3 to 6 at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested for St. Stanislaus' School, Sts. Patrick and Raphael Food Pantry or to the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home.
