Linsley V. Dodge Jr., 87

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Linsley V. "Bud" Dodge Jr., 87, sometimes called Lin, a resident of Williamstown since 1999, died peacefully in his sleep at Sweet Brook Care Centers on Tuesday, April 17, 2012.

Born in Adams on March 26, 1925, son of Mr. and Mrs. Linsley V. Dodge, his parents moved to Greenwich, Conn., in in 1935 and he attend Greenwich Country Day School, Eaglebrook School and Deerfield Academy. Mr. Dodge graduated with a bachelor's degree cum laude from Williams College in 1948. An active alumnus through the years, and class secretary from 1953-93, he was elected president of the 1948 class at its 50th reunion.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he enlisted at age 17 and later served as a junior officer on the cruiser USS Topeka during the occupation of Japan, 1945-46.

Mr. Dodge was employed in the public relations field, working at a number of New York agencies including BBDO, Young and Rubicam and Carl Byoir & Associates. He earlier worked for the Associated Press for a year after college and later was a business-financial writer for United Press International in the 1950s. He also worked at Lone Star Industries in Greenwich and wrote op-eds for southern Connecticut newspapers, including The Advocate and The Greenwich Time.

A musician, he played piano with jazz groups and lead sing-alongs. He also was backup organist for two Connecticut churches and was interim organist in 2001-2 for Second Congregational Church. He also played drums or glockenspiel in marching and concert bands.

He was a life member of the North Berkshire Salvation Army Board and chairman from 2005-06. He also volunteered with the American Red Cross Blood Bank.

Mr. Dodge was married and divorced twice.

He leaves three daughters, Plunkett Dodge-Peterson of Wilmington, N.C., Lindsey Lanigan of Dover and Grainne DuMont of Check, Va.; a son, Timothy Dodge of Stamford, Conn., and five grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A memorial service for Mr. Dodge will be held at Second Congregational Church in South Williamstown on Monday, April 23, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.

Donations may be made to the Alumni Fund, Williams College class of 1948, 75 Park St., Williamstown, MA 01267. Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, North Adams, is in charge of arrangements.
